ROLE SUMMARY
Works under the direction and supervision of a Physical Therapist to perform duties to provide physical therapy care and related tasks as delegated by the supervising physical therapist. The PTA may also carry out routine physical therapy functions such as documentation of treatment progress.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs physical therapy treatment of patients which includes direct application of modalities, instruction in the use of assistive devices, safety and instruction in therapeutic exercises per treatment plans established by the physical therapist.
2. Treats patients to relieve pain, develop or restore function and achieve maximum performance using physical means.
3. Instructs patients in care and use of adaptive equipment. Assists in adapting all modalities for use of homebound patients. Is observant of all rules relative to the care of the patient and careful in utilization of equipment and apparatus.
4. Instructs other health team personnel and family members in certain phases of physical therapy with which they may assist the patient. Attends care plan conferences when appropriate.
5. Teaches educational classes for groups or individuals on topics relevant to physical therapy.
6. Attends staff meetings and actively participates in in-service programs and continuing education.
7. Participates in continuous quality improvement. Serves as clinical instructor for physical therapist assistant students affiliating with Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
· Possesses team abilities to assist in promoting and developing the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Home Care Services Department.
· Possesses knowledge and skill to promote excellence in patients services, community outreach and professional growth through continuing education.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
· Must be a graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant school.
· Must hold a valid Wyoming Physical Therapist Assistant license.
· Must be CPR certified.
· Current Wyoming driver's license.
· Current auto insurance.
· At least 1 year of experience in either an in-patient, out-patient, or home care setting is preferred.
