ROLE SUMMARY Augment a physician's ability to provide medical services to patients; collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations and provide direct patient care services. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist physician in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care; record the normal and abnormal data for review by the physician. 2. Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the date in the patient's record; write progress notes. 3. Prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings; obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients. 4. Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient. 5. Monitor progress of patients, report progress to supervising physician, and maintain record of each patient's progress, consulting with supervising physician when patient's progress does not meet anticipated and/or predetermined criteria. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES · Ability to assess a patient's condition, formulate plan of care, select appropriate interventions, evaluate patient's response to plan of care and to explain to patient/family about this process. · Ability to assess, evaluate, explain, teach, problem solve using critical thinking; and perform calculations. · Demonstrates excellent professional/clinical skills and utilization of the Nursing process of direct and indirect patient care which includes assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care to meet patient needs and improve patient outcomes. · Expert knowledge in clinical area of specialty. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS · Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse program. · Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse licensure in the State of Wyoming. · Current CPR and specialty certifications as required per department (i.e. BLS and ACLS).
