ROLE SUMMARY
The Billing Clerk /Coder is responsible for coding /auditing all charges from the Ambulatory Infusion Center (AIC) using the MAR and medical records of each patient. The Billing Clerk /Coder will be cross trained in other functions of the front desk of the Ambulatory Infusion Center (AIC) and reports to the Charge Nurse and Operations Manager of the Ambulatory Infusion Center (AIC).
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Correct procedural coding of all infusions and injections given in the AIC.
2. Ensures all billable supplies are captured and submitted to billing.
3. Screens, refers or responds to telephone calls.
4. Arranges appointments and greets patients and visitors.
5. Performs basic computer applications including word processing and spreadsheets.
6. Performs audits of encounters as required by Compliance and supervisory staff.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
· Proficiency in accurately coding using ICD 9, CPT references.
· Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology. Knowledge of coding practices and guidelines, rules, regulations and coding ethics.
· Ability to converse clearly and concisely in a professional manner. Detail oriented and self motivated.
· Proficient with MS Office, Outlook and Internet Explorer.
· Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
· Proficient with standard office equipment.
· Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
· High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
· Certified in hospital or physician coding. (CCS, CCS-P, CPC) or eligible for national coding exams.
· Proof of successful completion of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
· Ability to type 45 wpm.
