Description:
This is a non-tenure track position (100% Research).

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct a comprehensive basic and applied research program intended to maximize the efficiency of row crop production systems as related to fertility, crop rotations, soil and water management, and/or water quality.

The incumbent will be expected to pursue an innovative and comprehensive research program considering both practical needs and scientific merit. This individual is expected to participate in regional projects, pursue extramural grant funding, and publish in refereed journals. Responsibilities of the systems agronomist also include working closely with producers, informing the agricultural community of the practical significance of research findings and addressing current issues related to row crop production systems. This will be done through conventional Extension channels such as county meetings, Extension publications and popular press releases. The incumbent must be responsive to requests for information from Extension personnel, citizens groups and individuals.

The incumbent will be a faculty member of the University of Arkansas Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Science (Fayetteville). Teamwork and collaboration are expected with other faculty located at the Southeast Research and Extension Center, Extension and research faculty located throughout the state and colleagues across the South to solve problems in production agriculture. The opportunity exists to advise graduate students and mentor undergraduate students. The incumbent will be expected to teach one undergraduate course every two years.

The candidate should be innovative, exhibit drive and have excellent written and oral communication skills. The Southeast Research and Extension Center is located on the UAM campus and housed with its Division of Agriculture academic program.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. in Agronomy or closely related field required. Ph.D. candidates nearing completion of their degree will be considered. Expertise in field and laboratory research is desirable. Previous work in row crops preferred. Evidence of grant writing and refereed journal articles desirable. Previous work in soil fertility, crop rotations, soil and water management and/or water quality is desirable. The incumbent must have a commitment to developing a research program supporting row crop agriculture. The successful candidate must be able to relate effectively with diverse agricultural clientele and enjoy working with people.

ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIPS:
Works under immediate supervision of Director, Southeast Research and Extension Center, and is responsible to the CSES Department Head (located in Fayetteville) for program development and implementation.
