Residential Mentor - Upward Bound Programs

Part-Time:
This is a demanding and time consuming position, so residential mentors cannot attend classes nor have other part-time jobs during the employment period.
Annual Salary:
$2200 plus room and board
Work Schedule:
Time commitment is from June 9 - July 25, 2008. This includes one week of training.
Description:
The office of Pre-College Programs seeks approximately 17 energetic student leaders to live and work with Upward Bound participants as residential mentors. Upward Bound is a college preparation program designed to encourage 9 - 12 grade students to develop the academic skills and motivation necessary for success in post-secondary education. During the six-week summer program, students live on the University of Arkansas campus and are involved in an intensive academic curriculum and personal development activities. As role models and enforcers of program policy, residential mentors will work as a team to maintain a safe living and learning environment in which to guide and engage with student participants.
Minimum Requirements:
Successfully completed a minimum of 60 hours of college credit by June 2008, in good academic standing, minimum GPA of 2.5, leadership experience, time management skills, high energy, and a positive attitude.
Preferred Qualifications:
Individuals with experience facilitating student groups and residential life supervisory experience
Job Duties:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supervising youth in a consistent, equitable manner in a variety of structured and unstructured environments; facilitating a small on-going mentor group; attending all meals and student outings; completing documentation and reports as assigned; displaying a high level of motivation; maintaining a positive attitude; and functioning well in a structured, fast pace environment; work effectively with and display sensitivity toward a wide range of ethnic, socioeconomic, cultural and life-style differences among staff and student participants
