Description:
The Ralph E. Martin Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Arkansas has established an endowed professorship and seeks a dynamic individual to fill the Charles W. Oxford Professorship in Emerging Technologies. This position is a tenure-track opening for an Assistant or Associate Professor. The new faculty member is expected to strengthen and broaden the department's commitment to teaching and research. The successful candidate will work with senior faculty to create and advance state of the art research program. There are opportunities for significant collaboration with several departments across campus, including Chemistry and Biochemistry, Physics, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

The University of Arkansas is the state's land-grant institution and is located in one of the fastest growing and most dynamic regions of the country. The UA is a major center of theoretical and applied research which provides of a wide range of public services to people throughout the state and the nation.

The UA is located in Fayetteville, in Northwest Arkansas, at the rolling foothills of the Ozark Mountains. Fayetteville was ranked #1 of the Top 20 Best-Performing Cities from among 200 of the largest metropolitan areas in 2003 by the Milken Institute, based on economic growth as well as quality of life criteria. Money magazine recently listed Fayetteville as one of the "100 Best Places to Live." The temperate four-season climate is very desirable and has attracted an approximate population of 65,000 residents. Recreational opportunities abound in the region.

Fayetteville and the surrounding community boast a low crime rate, low unemployment rates, and an outstanding public school system. A recent Forbes/Milken Institute study placed the NW Arkansas area as third on its list of the top 25 best small places for business and careers.

Our students (approximately 200 undergraduate and 25 graduate) typically find employment in Arkansas and the SE/SW region of the US encompassing the following industries: government, consulting, paper, chemical, cosmetics, defense, medical, and petroleum. Some students go on to medical school or law school, or have joined the military. The region's Fortune 500 companies that actively recruit on our campus include Dow, Eastman and Albermarle.

Minimum Requirements:
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a related field at the time of appointment, and should hold at least one chemical engineering degree. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally recognized and funded research program, teach core undergraduate and graduate level chemical engineering courses and be committed to service at all levels. Competitive applicants will have an excellent academic record and possess a record of demonstrated scholarly achievement. Highly effective interpersonal verbal and written skills are also essential.

Preferred Qualifications:
We seek individuals who value collegiality, possess strong research records or potential, and have the ability to provide an excellent learning environment in the classroom. Some post-doctoral or industrial experience is preferred but not required.
