Description:
A full-time Program Associate I position is available in the Department of Plant Pathology, University of Arkansas. The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting research in molecular plant pathology and managing laboratory resources. After the first year of appointment, this position will be funded in part through competitive grants and thus year-to-year continuation will be contingent upon the availability of external funding.
Minimum Requirements:
M.S. in plant pathology, biochemistry, biology, mycology, or related field of science. This position requires experience with basic techniques in molecular biology, such as isolation of nucleic acids and PCR. Experience operating and maintaining general lab equipment is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience isolating and culturing microorganisms, especially fungi, is strongly preferred. Experience with techniques in liquid and/or gas chromatography is also preferred.
Job Duties:
The successful candidate will perform experiments to identify and characterize molecular-level interactions between plant pathogenic fungi and their hosts, with emphasis on mycotoxigenic fungi and Cercospora spp. Approaches will include molecular genetics, functional genomics, and metabolomics. Experiments will be conducted primarily in laboratory and greenhouse settings.
