Description:
This is a 12-month, tenure-track position located on the main campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR. The successful candidate will have research (75%), teaching and advising (15%), and service (10%) responsibilities. The position will be available July 1, 2009.

Minimum Requirements:
A Ph.D degree in plant breeding and genetics is required.Excellent communication skills and a keen interest in collaborating with other researchers and producers are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with winter grains breeding, biotechnology, and classroom instruction is desired.

Job Duties:
Research responsibilities will include basic and applied research in the area of winter grains breeding and genetics. The applied research will emphasize development of new and improved varieties/germplasm of soft red winter wheat and other winter grain crops. An additional responsibility will include directing the state-wide small grain variety testing program. The incumbent will be expected to maintain close working relationships with research and extension counterparts as well as commodity groups. Basic research components will depend on the individual’s training, expertise, interest, and could include, but are not limited to, studies in the areas of molecular, quantitative, population, or physiological genetics and cytogenetics. The incumbent should have expertise in molecular marker technologies for applied plant breeding and their utility in gene discovery, QTL mapping, and molecular breeding. The incumbent will be expected to compete successfully for extramural funding and to maintain a broad- based program with a state and national focus.

Teaching responsibilities will include an undergraduate course in winter grains production and a graduate course in plant breeding and genetics (molecular, quantitative, population and cytogenetics). The incumbent will also have graduate and undergraduate student advising responsibilities.
