Description:
This person is the primary liaison between the Station Director at Marianna, Division of Agriculture Scientists, Graduate Students, LMCRS personnel in planning, initiating and conducting designated research projects. Individual will be expected to perform basic agricultural operations (including driving and maintaining tractors, planting, spraying, harvest and other equipment). Possess basic computer skills (particularly use of word processing and spreadsheet programs for reports); collect and report complete and accurate data; maintain supplies and chemical inventories; and perform proper calibration of sprayers, weigh systems and other field equipment. Individual is also expected to carry out other duties (including assisting with field days, assisting other Program Techs and general maintenance of station) as assigned by the Station director and project leaders.
Minimum Requirements:
B. S. degree required in Agriculture. Individual must have ability and interest in agriculture and working in row crop field conditions. Must have a valid driver’s license. Have the ability to work in adverse climate conditions and carry at least 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to individual with training and/or experience working with diverse mid-south row crop research and/or production including cotton, soybeans, grain sorghum, corn, wheat, canola and other alternative crops. Also, preference will be given to candidates having an understanding of experimental plot design, and the ability to communicate with client groups. Experience with plot equipment (planting and harvesting), plant monitoring (growth and pests) is preferred.
