Academic Advisor - 426a.1213 **3 positions** Download or view the position description [PDF] Department Academic Advising - UARC Responsibilities General: Provide student-centered academic advising to undergraduate students. As a member of the central advising staff, the incumbent will be expected to assume an active, positive and collaborative role in advising students. Specific: Provide expert, credible, and sensitive advising to students. Advise students regarding selecting a major and courses, career objectives and personal goals; academic success stragegies; make appropriate referrals. Communicate and interpret University policies including; general education requirements, major and minor requirements and graduation requirements, curriculum modifications, course waivers and substitutions, late course adds/drops/withdrawals, credit overloads. Conduct orientation sessions and meetings for new, re entry, and transfer students. Serve as a resource for faculty advisors. Work with advisors in developing, implementing, and improving processes necessary for successful advising. Requirements Bachelors degree. Advising or counseling experience. Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Presentation skills. Competency in Windows-based computer environment. Commitment to delivery of high quality academic advising to a diverse college population. Ability to work in fast-paced environment; learn and communicate continually changing and detailed information. Preferences Masters degree in counseling, higher education, or related field. Experience working with a diverse population of college students in a student-centered environment. Experience working in higher education. Teaching or training experience. Knowledge of student development theory. Experience advising students in online programs. Starting Date July 1, 2013 or sooner Salary Competitive Terms of Appointment 12-month Academic Staff position. Continued appointment beyond June 30, 2014 is contingent on continuation of funding.
