Reading/Study Center

Responsibilities

Primary responsibility: teach three to four sections of study strategy courses each seven-week period. These courses include, but are not limited to, Comprehensive Study Skills, Applied Study Skills, and Strategies for Academic Recovery. Other duties: provide individual academic skills counseling; develop and present learning strategy workshops; participate in curriculum development and program assessment; assist in the development of learning assistance programming for students of all abilities.


Requirements

Masters degree required in most instances, preferably in education, reading, adult literacy, counseling, or related field. Strong candidates with a bachelors degree who have credits toward a masters in one of these fields and exhibit a combination of outstanding qualities and/or experiences may be accepted at the associate lecturer level. Teaching experience is also required with college-level or secondary experience preferred.


Preferences

Experience with college-level reading and/or study skills instruction is highly preferred. Desired professional qualities include: excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with college students in both individual and group settings; evidence of initiative and leadership; strong organizational skills; ability and willingness to work collaboratively; commitment to serving diverse populations; strong desire for professional growth in the learning assistance field; experience with new instructional technologies.


Starting Date

August 19, 2013 (two weeks additional compensation for preparation); semester begins September 3, 2013.

Salary

Negotiable, dependent upon both qualifications and funding availability.

Terms of Appointment

1.0 FTE nine-month, fixed term instructional academic staff appointment with renewal contingent on Differential Tuition funding. Potential for summer work outside of the contract period.
