The certified coder position encompass all aspects of medical coding for physician services- including office outpatient hospital and inpatient services. This includes but is not limited to:
· understanding of ICD-9 CPT & HCPCS codes
· rules & regulations related to ICD-9 CPT & HCPCS coding
· ability to interpret insurance guidelines relative to medical coding
· understanding of daily balancing techniques
· understanding abbreviations & medical terminology
· ability to read a medical chart
· understanding of basic components of medical and laboratory procedure
This position will be responsible for performing medical record audits both inpatient and outpatient.
Identify targeted clinics and complete audits to include E&M coding (Documentation) review charge patterns review diagnosis coding and assure (ABN) compliance.
Insure appropriate and efficient hospital coding.
This will also include being responsible for educating physicians and other health care practitioners to:
· improve accuracy of chart coding
· advises them on proper code selection
· required documentation
· procedures and other requirements
· identifies performance issues and brings them to the attention of the appropriate supervisor
The position may also include such duties as data entry claims filing review of remittance advice patient account inquires and research on billing/coding issues.
The employee should have knowledge of computerized encoder human anatomy and the ability to learn software utilized on a daily basis.
