JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position Summary:
Registered Professional Nurse who has both clinical and administrative responsibility for the  direction and coordination of all activities involving the practice of medicine at the Center For Same Day Surgery, an ambulatory surgery center joint venture between Via Christi Health Partners and a group of physicians.  The Administrator directs and supervises  both peri-operative and administrative business personnel.  The Administrator conducts the affairs of the Center within the limits of his/her authority and the policies established by the facility.
 
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Other duties may be assigned.  Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.
Clinical Operations
         Maintains high levels of nursing care and a safe environment for all patients cared for at the Center.
         Controls quantity and quality of nursing care by establishing performance standards, analyzing needs, and implementing change.
         Directs the scheduling of surgical procedures, making decisions involving conflicts in scheduling and arrangements for individual specialized procedures
         Analyzes new demands resulting from the introduction of new procedures and equipment and makes necessary changes in staffing needs.
         Rounds daily in all areas of the Center to observe activities of nursing judgment, principles of work simplification, and economical use of supplies and equipment.
         Has in depth knowledge and experience in the peri-operative care of the surgical patient.
         Proficient in the organization of the surgical suite and associated areas of decision making.
         Knowledge of anesthetic agents and their usage and effect on postoperative patients.
         Knowledge of procedures and/or treatments performed in all areas of the facility.
         Insures preventative maintenance is completed timely on all appropriate equipment.
 
Regulatory Compliance
         Knowledge and understanding of the Centers bylaws and rules and regulations and their application to the facility.
         Ensures that manuals for policies and procedures for the Center are updated and maintained
         Maintains Quality Assurance Program (including monthly statistics, quarterly reports, all patient and employee incidents, and patient and physician complaints with appropriate follow-up).
         Insures licensure and continued certification of the Center according to federal and state guidelines and mandates.
         Knowledge of ASC accreditation.
         Knowledge of patients rights.
         Knowledge of fire and safety regulations, electrical hazards, and disaster plan, infection control and aseptic techniques.
 
Leadership/Personnel Management
         Interviews, hires, counsels, disciplines, and terminates employees.
         Directs, supervises and motivates personnel providing supportive counseling as needed.
         Completes staff performance evaluations.
         Approves pertinent educational in-service meetings and recommends additional educational needs of the staff.
         Formulates and administers a wage and salary program and schedules for the Centers personnel, consistent with the Management Committee goals and area wage rates for equivalent positions.
         Working knowledge of staffing, and nursing care hours and productivity management
         Interfaces with and /or participates on certain Via Christi Health committees e.g. Risk Management Committee and Materials Management Value Analysis Committee
 
Medical Staff Development/Relations
         Helps recruit, retain and coordinate physicians for the Center.
         Establishes department policies with appropriate medical staff committees and ensures that they are observed.
         Serves as liaison between the medical staff and the Center.
 
Financial Leadership
         Develops annual budget in coordination with finance.
         Monitors all factors affecting operating expenses of the Center and implements necessary actions for cost containment commensurate with the Centers objectives, or recommends appropriate action to the Management Committee.
         Evaluates and approves purchase of new instruments and equipment.
 
Management Responsibilities:
The Administrator derives authority and is directly responsible to the Management Committee for the efficient and orderly administration of the daily operation of the Center For Same Day Surgery, including but not limited to, personnel administration, financial administration and special duties and projects as may be assigned.  He/she shall be responsible for continued certification and licensure of the Center.  He/she shall direct either personally or through designed subordinates, the activities of all employees.  The Administrator is specifically authorized to select, appoint, direct, train and release all non-physician personnel.



JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications:
 
            Education and/or Experience
         Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
         Bachelors Degree in Nursing or equivalent in relevant field.
         Minimum of 5 years experience as an operating room staff nurse.
         Has a minimum of 5 years experience in a managerial position with emphasis on communication skills and organizational techniques.
 
            Behavioral Skills
         A personal presence which is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals and values of Via Christi Health
 
            Technical Skills
         Certified in CPR.
         Critical care experience including basic arrhythmia interpretation.
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
         Currently licensed to practice in the State of Kansas.  Bachelors Degree in Nursing or equivalent in relevant field.

         To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements are, sitting long periods of time, lift up to 15 lbs, keyboard 50 60% of the time per day, walk and stand when needed.
