JOB DESCRIPTION:

Via Christi Health`s rich history of serving the people of Kansas and the surrounding region dates back more than 100 years to the healing ministries of our founding congregations. Today, Via Christi Health is the largest provider of health care services in Kansas. We serve Kansas and northeast Oklahoma through our doctors, hospitals, senior villages and health services.

Position Summary:
Collaborates in strategic and senior leadership of the health ministry, responsible for fostering its Catholic identity, helping it to fulfill the Via Christi Health (VCH) Mission and Vision, and integrate the VCH Values in all aspects of organizational culture, strategy, service and community collaboration. In collaboration with VCH Mission Integration, accountable for (a) policies and processes related to community benefit care of persons living in poverty; (b) a full continuum of initiatives designed to prepare and support leaders, including formation and workplace spirituality; processes and policies pertaining to clinical, organizational and business ethics; and the provision of spiritual care; (c) fostering integrated understanding of sponsorship, the health ministrys origins, relationship to the other ministries of VCH and Ascension Health, and shared responsibility for shaping the legacy of the future; and (d) supporting the health ministrys relationship with the local Diocesan Ordinary.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
  • Leads, as a strategic thought partner with the CEO and team members, the integration of VCH Mission, Core Values and the Catholic moral and social tradition in substantive and measurable ways in decision-making and discernment practices at all levels of the ministry.
  • Develops and implements formational/educational initiatives which deep and foster clarity around ministry identity and Model Community; utilize appropriate tools, including: Integral Model of Workplace Spirituality, Organizational Discernment Process and Catholic Identity Matrix
  • Fosters workplace spirituality and its integration in operations and strategic initiatives through a variety of approaches including theological reflection, ritual, celebrating heritage and fostering awareness of creating legacy for the future.
  • Collaborates with human resources to lead organizational development and change management efforts in ways that reflect ministry identity.
  • Fosters commitment to excellence in Spiritual Care, including full integration of spiritual care in care delivery teams and processes as essential aspect of providing holistic, reverent care, and promotes metrics to demonstrate outcomes of professional Spiritual Care.
  • Ensures robust community health needs assessments and leads community benefit planning and reporting with a focus on care of persons living in poverty and vulnerable populations.
  • Provides education for applying the moral tradition of the Church (e.g., Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services) and facilitates the function of the ethics committee.
  • Supports ministry senior administrator in maintaining an effective relationship with the Local Ordinary (diocesan Bishop) in concert with the VCH President & CEO and chief mission integration officer.
  • May perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Management Responsibilities:
  • Participates fully as a member of the health ministry senior leadership team.
  • Provides leadership and support to the departments reporting to her/him, hires, orients and performs direct-report evaluations, and participates in the ministrys management meetings and VCH-wide mission leadership meetings.
  • Supports and implements senior leadership decisions.
  • Develops and monitors department and ministry budgets.



JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications:

Education and Experience
  • Masters Degree in Theology or closely related field (e.g., divinity, religious studies, pastoral ministry, pastoral studies, ethics, spirituality), or willingness to obtain such a degree beginning in the first year of employment.
  • Minimum of three years leadership experience with strategic decision-making responsibilities, preferably in health care.
  • Well formed in the Catholic tradition, or experience working in a Catholic ministry.
  • Evidence of commitment to service of persons who are most vulnerable

Behavioral Skills
  • Models a collaborative style of servant leadership which is inspirational, influential and engaging.
  • Demonstrates basic understanding of and respect for a diversity of cultures and religious / spiritual traditions and ability to articulate Catholic identity and inclusion.
  • Displays excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Technical Skills
  • Working knowledge of health care operations and financing.
  • Demonstrates ability to apply Catholic theology and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
  • Possesses the language and computer skills necessary to communicate effectively and to document as necessary.
  • Effective in using adult learning models and good facilitation to engage persons in formative experience.
