This supervisory role is a hands-on working the floor supervisor. The position operates under the direction of the Production Manager. This position will be trained and expected to possess the capability to efficiently operate machines and troubleshoot to resolve machine issues. This position will be expected to demonstrate the capability to fulfill responsibilities as a machine operator and therefore must possess the skill set to setup, operate, run and pack product. The Shift Supervisor will regularly work the floor and be responsible and accountable for production, quality, counseling, discipline and administrative duties and supervise between 40-50 employees.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Supervise production employees and monitor production to ensure approved standards and specifications are met.
- Analyze procedures and production methods to improve quality, costs or productivity, in keeping with product specifications, good manufacturing practices, Federal safety regulations and Company policies.
3. Demonstrated ability to operate equipment to defined standards and product specification targets, troubleshooting, machine adjustments and minor equipment repair and equipment changeovers.
4. Ability to perform machine setup, operation and packing finished product.
- Directly supervises the activities of Production department personnel. Additionally, is responsible to ensure staffing patterns are fulfilled and work the floor as needed.
- Assists in the recruitment and selection of Production department members.
- Actively supports members` training and professional development.
- Counsels members in accordance with company policies with issues relating to conduct and performance issues. Assists with recommendation and implementation of disciplinary actions.
- Provide the necessary level of training and safety inspections to ensure a safe work environment.
- Ensure training is coordinated for new employees as well as incumbents so that product quality and work flow are maintained.
- Review performance of personnel as required and documents required performance enhancement plan as needed or any other disciplinary actions that may be required.
- Serve as a manufacturing technical expert for identified manufacturing processes. Continually review process and results, anticipate problems, and trouble-shoot processes and equipment with the assistance of other departments.
- Supervise temporary employees as required.
Education/Experience Required
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent required. Associates Degree in related field of study strongly preferred. Position requires 5 years of working experience, desired within a manufacturing setting. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with all levels of personnel needed. Advanced computer skills required. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment needed. Good proofreading skills are required.
Skills/Abilities
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
This position requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in common units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. The ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs is required.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Successfully complete other training as may be required by company policy. The ability to use personal computers is required and proficient in Microsoft Office. Organizational and communication skills that foster teamwork are necessary.
