POSITION SUMMARY The Infection Preventionist, under the direction of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee, functions in the roles of expert clinician, consultant, researcher and change agent/leader. In collaboration with the medical and nursing staff, the Infection Preventionist identifies, investigates, and reports health care associated infections through ongoing surveillance and provides analysis and recommendations for resolution. Some responsibilities include:
Performs surveillance, data collection, analysis of data, dissemination of results
Facilitates implementation of evidence-based practices and evaluates outcomes
Monitors compliance with infection control practices in the facility, mandates of accrediting and regulatory agencies related to practices associated with the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections
Abstracts medical records and performs data entry; application of NHSN definition/criteria to determine healthcare associated infection
Attends hospital committee/departmental meetings as assigned.Specific areas of focus may include policy development, collaboration with all hospital departments, providing educational opportunities, and active participation in quality improvement activities.
The majority of time is spent sitting/standing, and/or walking short distances. A culturally and linguistically diverse patient population is served including infants, adolescents, adults and geriatrics, with the majority being adults and geriatrics.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED Arkansas RN License, Certification in Infection Control preferred
SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL AND SKILL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED The position requires a current RN degree with BSN preferred, or a Masters degree in a healthcare related field, or a certification as a Medical Technologist, or a Bachelors Degree in Microbiology or Epidemiology, and a minimum of 3-5 years clinical experience in an acute care environment. Certification in Infection Control required within 3 years of hire. The candidate must possess the ability to communicate effectively, organize and prioritize, demonstrate proficiency in data entry, critically analyze data, and facilitate infection control activities.
