POSITION SUMMARY The Lead Coding Specialist role provides oversight and insurance of the accuracy, consistency and efficiency in relation to code assignment for reimbursement and reporting purposes. The Lead Coding Specialist performs quality reviews for coding staff in order to validate code and reimbursement assignments. Additional responsibilities include monitoring governmental and insurance industry information for correct code assignments, training coding staff, providing education seminars for healthcare staff, communicating with physicians and healthcare professionals to clarify supportive documentation for code assignment and working with the billing department to ensure appropriate reimbursement for codes assigned. The Lead Coding Specialist will assist with managing daily workflow and assist with daily coding as needed.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED HIM Degree or Certification among AHIMA credentials- RHIA, RHIT, CCS or AAPC credentials- CPC, CPC-H, CPMA, COC,CIC

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL AND SKILL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION Must possess an advanced degree in Health Information Management or Certified Coding credential(s) such as RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, etc with 3+ years hospital coding experience with Inpatient coding experience strongly preferred. Must possess understanding and knowledge of coding and thorough knowledge of State, Federal, and HIPAA regulations. The ideal candidate will possess business office/billing knowledge. Excellent communication, organizational, and customer relation skills used in frequent public interaction. Strong Coding background, DRG auditing, training, policy and procedure, and data quality management skills. Strong computer skills with advanced systems knowledge required. Prior knowledge and use of McKesson STAR , 3M encoder and work experience is preferred.
