The incumbent works with delegates of HIM coding, Business Office, and charge department to resolve edits on failed claims and claims scrubbing reports. Ensures accurate CPT, UB codes, and modifiers are appropriately reported on claims. The incumbent is responsible for the auditing of charts for services provided to both inpatients and outpatients. The incumbent responds to all requests for focus bill audits from various customers of the system when needed. The incumbent prepares compliance-related audits and provides information for reports as requested. The incumbent works with system staff on issues related to documentation in the medical records. He/she assists with preparing appeals for denials, for example RAC recoupments. This position assists delegates of charge departments in developing the knowledge and understanding of appropriate charge processes and documentation requirements. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining a high level understanding of CMS rules and regulations. The incumbent will be crossed trained to assist with other departmental duties as requested.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED HIS Degree or Certification among AHIMA credentials- RHIA, RHIT, CCA, CCS or AAPC credentials- CPC, COC, CIC, CPMA
SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL AND SKILL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED Must possess an advanced degree in Health Information Management or Certified Coding credential(s). Coding experience of 2-3 years desired or 3-5 years experience auditing clinical records. Experience in auditing of medical records, medical necessity policies and CMS rules/regulations is desired. Strong Excel experience required with proficiency with all Microsoft Office products. Prior knowledge and use of Centricity/Athena IDX , Optum 360 encoder and work experience is preferred.
