Responsibilities Performs patient care assessment, medication delivery and airway clearance techniques Provides ventilatory support Performs specialty tasks (bronchoscopy assist, in-house transports to testing or transfer units) Documents patient related activities Performs medical record review to ensure physician`s orders for respiratory care are current Provides suggestions and input into patient`s plan of care, attempt to initiate respiratory protocols for applicable patients Receives, documents and initiates orders pertaining to respiratory care modalities Provides orientation/reinforcement to respiratory care modalities pertaining to the disease process Provides information to patients and families concerning their understanding of, cooperation with and participation in their own care upon admission Provides patient education for home care, including but not limited to the following modalities: patient assessment, medication delivery, airway clearance techniques, mechanical ventilation Licensure LRCP with AR License, CPR. Educational and Certification Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Graduate of an A.M.A approved certification/registry program OR may be a graduate of an A.M.A. approved degree program in respiratory care Current license to practice respiratory care in the State of Arkansas and Respiratory Therapist with the National Board for Respiratory Care Certification in basic cardiac life support is required One (1) year clinical experience in both critical and non-critical care areas (with a minimum of six (6) months experience in critical care) is preferred Desired Skills Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology of the cardiopulmonary systems and infection control Knowledge of disease states, pathophysiology and pharmacology Operation of equipment used to administer routine respiratory care therapeutic modalities Knowledge of special procedures (once trained) Ability to be articulate, courteous and supportive in dealing with hospital, administrative and departmental personnel, patients and parents with ability to honor confidentiality To independently treat patients from all departments by following the established therapy plan of care Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills Demonstrate good customer service
