POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for assisting patients and their families with personal and environmental difficulties affecting their illnesses and subsequent medical care. Identifies and analyses the social/emotional factors underlying client illness. Communicates these factors to the healthcare team and performs interventions as indicated. Assists patient and their families with procurement of community resources as needed. Assists with discharge planning process. This position is responsible for providing mental health evaluations in the Emergency Department. Will be able to make clinical decisions including diagnostic impressions, therapeutic interventions, and discharge planning. Will work with various agencies in the community including the court system, law enforcement, and other mental health agencies to provide adequate services. This position is part of the Generations/Transitions on-call team. This position has exposure to body fluids and communicable diseases. Majority of time is spent sitting (up to 60% of work time) with frequent standing and/or walking required (up to 40% of work time). Services a variety of populations including: neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

LSW (Bachelors prepared) licensed by Arkansas Social Work Licensing Board

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL AND SKILL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

Knowledge of social work standards of practice and ethics. Experience and knowledge of community resources. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to work within the team concept. Possesses understanding and ability to fulfill role of social worker in acute hospital setting. Able to perform above duties in crisis situations. Understanding of federal, state, and private payer reimbursement guidelines. Experienced mental health professional.
