Description:
The primary responsibility of adjunct faculty in the Surgical Technology program is to provide a combination of classroom and hands-on instruction to students. Evaluation of student progress and assessment of skills are also key components of the position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
--Provide organized, structured, and sequenced instruction for the program area of responsibility.
--Evaluate student progress regularly, maintain accurate progress and attendance records, update competency profiles regularly, and provide written student referral reports as deemed necessary.
--Provide leadership in working with supervisory and administrative staff in job placement activities for students in the program area of responsibility.
--Remain current with industry standards and practices.
--Coordinate and participate in regular program evaluation activities and make recommendations to the Wichita Area Technical College administration for program improvement in his/her area of responsibility.
--Practice, teach, and incorporate accepted and mandated safety procedures into the curriculum.
--Assist college administrators in the establishment of positive public relations with trade associations, industry, parents, students, and the community.
--Attend departmental, divisional and college meetings and inservice activities as directed.
--Maintain the assigned work area in good condition, reporting any concerns to the division.
--Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
--Associate degree or Bachelor s degree preferred. In the absence of a degree, significant industrial experience may be allowed as a substitute.
--Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program and formally CERTIFIED currently as a Surgical Technologist.
--Two to three years of hands-on industry experience in Surgical Technology.
--Thorough knowledge of the proper safety and handling of materials used in the field.
--Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook applications.
--Experience in adult education preferred.

--Ability to maintain confidentiality in all student matters.
--Ability to utilize diplomacy in interpersonal relations and communicate well with diverse populations.
--Ability to utilize appropriate conflict management and negotiation techniques for problem solving.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
--Physical requirements include: lifting, standing, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, finger and manual dexterity and repetitive movements.
