Job Description:
Web Yoga has partnered with a Bellevue, Washington company to find and qualify candidates for their Sr. Instructional Designer Position.
Role and Responsibilities
- The Sr. Instructional Designer / Project Manager will perform full project management of curriculum development and documentation projects, from initial planning to client acceptance (4 – 6 projects simultaneously).
- Communicate product release schedules and changes to team.
- Advocate for and provide direction on innovative learning solutions that meet customer needs—instructor led, synchronous, on-demand WBT, and blended. Advocate for and provide direction on current documentation methods and tools and editorial/style guidelines.
- Develop curriculum targeted at specific audiences within a product line, using ADDIE and/or ISD methods.
- Lead design/analysis workshops and gain stakeholder buy-in prior to starting development.
- Collaborate with team members and SMEs to develop and verify technical content for training and documentation.
- Lead review workshops and train-the-trainer sessions and oversee practice sessions and pilots to ensure that instructors understand and buy into course design/delivery.
- Perform substantive and copy edits of other writers’ work, as well as your own.
- Work in close cooperation with diverse groups including: Product Development, Technical Support, Quality Assurance, Marketing, and Sales.
- Maintain open channels of communication with all above groups to facilitate learning about and address customer needs and technical issues related to our product lines.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
1. BA/BS in technical communication, adult education, or instructional design (or other degree with a certification in one of these disciplines).
2. 8 - 10 years experience in a software/product development environment creating technical documentation and training materials for internal and/or external clients.
3. Solid understanding of working within a software development lifecycle, task-oriented documentation, and differences between print and online technical writing.
4. Strong understanding of instructional systems design and/or ADDIE, including needs/task analysis, design, development, implementation, and measurement.
5. Experience developing and deploying synchronous online courses.
6. Exceptional writing, editing, and analysis skills. Proven ability to write about fairly complex software for non-technical audiences.
7. Solid understanding of PCs/operating systems and databases. Ability to learn new software quickly.
8. Excellent track record of successfully managing multiple documentation/course development projects
9. Strong project management and leadership skills (supervisory experience a plus). 1
10. Excellent organizational communication skills; experience working with Product Development, Technical Support, Quality Assurance, Marketing, and Sales.
11. Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, RoboHelp, and e-learning tools (Captivate, Camtasia, Articulate).
12. Familiarity with Microsoft Manual of Style for Technical Publications (or previous MS experience) a huge plus!
13. Must have 8 years of solid experience as a technical writer and instructional designer in the software or IT industry (must have held titles, not just contributed to documentation and training in other roles). –
