Position Description Counsel will serve as an attorney for the Merchandising, Marketing and Supply Chain section of the Walmart Legal Department and will provide legal support to the merchandising and marketing functions of Walmart`s U.S. operations. This attorney will be a primary legal contact for the Merchandising and Marketing Divisions, providing advice and counsel to senior levels of the leadership within those divisions. The daily work will vary greatly, but will include negotiation and drafting for sophisticated commercial transactions, general contract work, regulatory advice, marketing and advertising issues, policy interpretation, basic IP advice, limited antitrust advice, consumer complaints, inquiries from Attorneys General offices and consumer advocacy groups and other issues impacting day-to-day operations.
Minimum Qualifications JD from an accredited law school with excellent credentials
Minimum of six years of post JD experience in a corporate legal department, law firm or government
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, company executives, outside counsel, regulatory agencies, suppliers, and to his/her associates within the legal department
Ability to work independently, collaboratively and to prioritize competing projects and matters effectively in a fast-paced environment
Strong analytical skills and the ability to provide legal concepts in laymans terms
Extensive experience in negotiation and drafting for complex transactions
Ability to provide practical and creative solutions to legal problems
Additional Preferred Qualifications Legal experience in the areas of merchandising, marketing , retail or consumer products
Transaction-focused practice at a full-service law firm or in-house legal department preferred
