Certified Mechanic
(ASE Certified)
Must have the following in order to apply:
Must have three (3) years of journeyman level experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive or other engine powered public works equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Possession and maintenance of valid ASE Certifications that includes (at least) brakes, steering, and suspension is required. Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida CDL Class B license is required. Journeyman level mechanical knowledge is required
Appointing Authority May Also Require: Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations. Mobile Air Conditioning Society certification and/or A.S.E. air condition certification. Other desirable knowledge, skills, abilities, and credentials relevant to a position.
Preferred Skills:- Possession and maintenance of a Masters’ ASE certification is desirable.
- Possession and maintenance of a CDL Class A license is desirable.
- Possession and maintenance of a large variety of ASE certifications (brakes, steering, and suspension is the minimum requirement).
- Experience with large scale fleet maintenance ranging from small motorized hand tools to large equipment (such as front end loaders).
- Experienced in the diagnosis/repair of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic systems and components.
- Experienced in the diagnosis/repair of transmission systems (standard and automatic, including Allison series).
- Experienced in the diagnosis/repair of a variety of air conditioning systems.
- Experienced with using precision diagnostic tools and measuring devices to diagnose a wide range of systems.

Job Description:
This is skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair gasoline and diesel fueled equipment such as automobiles, trucks, tractors, graders, draglines, mowers, pumps, generators and compressors. Duties include performance testing of repaired equipment units and may include lead worker responsibility over subordinate mechanics or assistants and the inspection of their work.
