3rd shift Take Off Packer 11pm to 7am Sunday night thorugh Thursday, ending Friday morning at 7am. Overtime as required; 10 hour days during week as needed. Some weekends possible.

POSITION: Carton Gluer Take Off-Packer

DEPARTMENT/PLANT: Finishing Dept. Winona

REPORTS TO: Shift Supervisor, Gluer Adjuster


GENERAL FUNCTION:

Removing flat blanks from a skid or glued cartons from the delivery belt of a gluer and placing the product in corrugated cases. The carton or blank must be checked to ensure that company and/or customer quality standards are adhered to. The packer is also expected to assist the operator with make- readys and to keep the work area and machine clean and neat.


SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. Ensure that correct cases are drawn from the warehouse and are available in sufficient quantities to allow uninterrupted production. When cases are returned to the warehouse, verify that the correct date and count are on the tag.

2. Verify count per case and ensure that cartons fit as specified on the job ticket. Verify that masters are labeled correctly.

3. Inspect cartons during the run and inform the operator of all quality defects, i.e. smeared or missing printing, poor adhesive application, cracked scores, improper folding of scores, offsetting in the delivery stack, unacceptable pre-break, etc.

4. Responsible for assisting the operator in achieving the highest possible productivity and quality, while minimizing waste.

5. Correctly fills out and turns in all required paperwork in a timely manner.

6. Works with the operator and the Gluer Adjuster to learn the duties of the operator so that they can fill in when the operator is not available.


QUALITY ASSURANCE DUTIES:

1. Consistently monitors glued cartons as they are packed and informs the operator of any quality defects.

2. Verifies at the start of the run and at the beginning of each shift that the correct packaging case, case count, and packing method, as specified on the job ticket, are being used.

3. Monitors cartons consistently for fiber tear and excess glue and informs operator of any problems.

4. Follow all of WS Packaging Groups rules for the Food Safe Product Program.


SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

None


SAFETY AND EXPOSURE TO POSSIBLE HAZARDS:

1. Responsible for maintaining correct operation of all safety guards and equipment on assigned machine, and for notifying management of any safety hazards.

2. Maintain assigned machine and work area in a clean and orderly manner.

3. Assure that all finishing supplies, chemicals, etc. are used and stored according to established safety procedures.

4. Uses Company provided safety equipment as specified by company policy, supplier instructions and/or OSHA regulations.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires lifting of glued cartons in units (weighing 5-30 pounds) from waist level from a continuous moving belt and placing them in corrugated containers at approximately waist height, or occasionally stacking unitized loads on pallets from floor to shoulder height. This will require a twisting and/or reaching motion both when picking up the cartons and when placing them in the corrugated containers. These actions will be repeated continuously during an 8-10 hour shift and occasional lifting of equipment into the machine (weights of 10-75 pounds).

Twisting and bending will occasionally be required when assisting the operator in putting parts onto the machine during set-ups. Working with adhesives, solvents, and other chemicals and supplies. Working in an environment with paper dust suspended in the air.
