CLASS TITLE: LIFEGUARD
EBENEZER PARK
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS
The purpose of the class is to supervise daily pool and picnic area operations, to perform lifeguard duties and administer First Aid as needed, to perform routine grounds and building maintenance duties as required to ensure clean and attractive recreation facilities for the public, and to perform related work as required. This class works according to some procedures but decides how or when to do things; work is reviewed regularly by supervisor.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Supervises the daily operations and activities of the parks swimming and picnic areas.
Performs lifeguard duties; administers First Aid and CPR as needed.
Inspects facilities and equipment for security and safety, and takes appropriate steps to ensure the safety of all staff and citizens and the protection of County property.
Participates in maintaining facilities in a clean, safe condition; performs routine pool maintenance and custodial maintenance of shelters and restrooms; removes trash and debris from parking lots and grounds.
Enforces rules and regulations for facility use; reports any unlawful activity to Park Ranger.
Prepares records and reports concerning assigned activities.
Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance regarding areas of responsibility.
Attends meetings, training, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.
May perform park store duties (i.e. sale of goods, cashier duties and stocking duties) as needed

DATA INVOLVEMENT:
Requires copying, transcribing, entering or posting data or information.
PEOPLE INVOLVEMENT:
Requires giving information, guidance or assistance to people to directly facilitate task accomplishment; may give directions or assignments to helpers or assistants.
INVOLVEMENT WITH THINGS:
Requires handling or using machines, tools or equipment requiring brief instruction or experience, such as pool maintenance tools and rescue equipment.
COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS
REASONING REQUIREMENTS:
Requires performing semi-routine work following procedures with occasional problems.
MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires using basic addition and subtraction, such as making change or measuring.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires reading routine sentences, instructions, regulations, procedures or work orders; writing routine sentences and completing routine job forms and incident reports; speaking routine sentences using proper grammar.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires doing clerical, manual or technical tasks prescribed by standard practices but which may require computation, the use of several procedures, and the use of independent judgments with obvious choices; requires normal attention for accurate results.
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE PREPARATION
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:
Requires high school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Must possess a valid state drivers license.
Must possess Lifeguard certification; must possess or be able to maintain certification in CPR and First Aid.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a short demonstration up to and including one month.

PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS:
Requires medium work that involves swimming, walking, standing, stooping, jumping, stretching or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:
The job may risk exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, toxic/caustic chemicals, disease/pathogens, drowning hazards.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities, depth perception, color perception.
