About the Position
Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor-Coding, collects, reviews, retrieves and codes data from medical records and reports for quality assessment, audit, study, research and billing purposes.
The qualified candidate will be responsible for carrying out the following duties:
- Collects, reviews and retrieves data from records and reports for quality assessment, audit, study and research purposes.
- Reviews patients' entire current medical record and assigns appropriate diagnoses and procedure codes (ICD-9-CM and CPT) for final billing.
- Determines the sequence of diagnoses according to uniform hospital discharge data.
- Works with medical and professional staff on a case-by-case basis to obtain appropriate clinical documentation for review as well as coding activities and DRG assignments.
Qualifications
- Strong communication and written skills
- Strong computer skills
- Certified Coding Specialist (C.C.S.): Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Associates’ Degree
