Food Service Worker Opportunity - Gettysburg Hospital
28 hours/2 weeks - Part Time
May be requied to work any of seven days per week. Expected to work holidays, evenings & weekends.
General Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Food Services Team Leader, performs a variety of routine duties related to the preparation and serving of food. Cleans kitchen area and cooking utensils. Performs a variety of routine duties in the cafeteria to prepare equipment and foods for service. Serves food and cleans up after meals following established practices and procedures. Serves on tray line. May operate cash register as needed including receiving payment from visitors and staff, balancing the cash drawer after each meal and compiling information for required reports
Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are essential job accountabilities:
1 Sets up and serves patient trays in accordance with established schedule and procedures.
2 Works on central tray line and assists with patient tray set up and preparation.
3 Prepares, loads, transports, and cleans food carts.
4 Prepares and sets up steam table, serving line and menu board. Obtains and places dishes, silverware, hot and cold foods, baked goods, beverages, desserts, and condiments.
5 Reviews menu and assembles food and supplies as needed for daily salad and cold foods preparation.
6 Prepares salad mixes and sandwich spreads such as tuna, salmon, egg, and chicken involving tasks such as selecting,
measuring, grinding, slicing, and mixing ingredients.
7 Prepares salad plates and tossed salads by portioning out mixes and adding salad vegetables as well as cutting and
mixing the various salad vegetables.
8 Prepares sandwiches and specialty items as directed.
9 Washes and cuts vegetables and fruits according to procedures.
10 Alerts supervisor to problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies. Detects and reports spoiled or
unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment or other unusual conditions.
11 Serves food as directed.
12 Operates dishwasher to ensure all dishes and utensils are clean.
13 Carries dishes and foods between kitchen and serving lines.
14 Participates in post-meal cleanup tasks as assigned or directed.
15 Collects, processes, and disposes of trash, cans, bottles, and similar debris and transports to disposal area.
Department Description:
The Food & Nutrition Services Department works collaboratively to provide wholesome, satisfying, and healthy food options for the patients, employees, and visitors of WellSpan Health York Hospital. Each day we serve approximately 1200 patient meals and 1300 cafeteria meals to staff and visitors. In addition, we also provide catering services for meetings and events.
