Position Summary:
This position supports the Youngers & Sons mission statement by ensuring quality and efficient tooling is in place to support customer production requirements.
Essential Responsibilities:
Interprets engineering drawings and/or instructions, work orders, and/or part blueprints for the purpose of determining project and/or tooling specifications.
Plans project details and/or tooling manufacturing to ensure proper utilization of equipment and material, and to ensure time frames are met.
Fabricates tools and fixtures for the purpose of work holding and machining of parts in such a way that produces quality parts, stable processes and maximum efficiency in cycle times.
Isolates and identifies project components and completed tooling for the purpose of maintaining organization and structure to the tooling area and to maintain project isolation in a multifunction area as well as maintaining activities within the quality policies and procedures of the company.
Assist engineering in the planning, development and implementation of tooling and/or processes for the purpose of the development of efficient tooling and processes.
Attends engineering and/or shift meetings, training classes, company meetings, as requested for the purpose of understanding company, quality, manufacturing, and safety policies and procedures and/or any other essential job information.
Reading blueprints, sketches, drawing, manuals, and specifications. Studying sample parts, determining dimensions and tolerances of the finished work pieces, determining set up requirements of completed tooling and processes. Communications with engineers, employees, and customers.
Making drawings, calculating measurements, determining and forecasting “tooling” material and tooling needs, estimating time needed for completion of project, communicating project time frames and plans to Manufacturing Engineers and supervisors.
Use of precision measuring instruments, CNC and manual machines, hand tools, and various other equipment and tools.
Keeping area neat and clean, documenting tooling, sorting, organizing, labeling all components, communicating organization structure to others throughout the organization, use of standard company forms and follows company policies and procedures as required.
Participating with engineers or others in concept sessions on tooling, communicating manufacturing methods, manufacturing and assembly of actual tooling, completing machine set ups, trouble shooting machining problems, coaching team members in machine operation, and occasionally operating machines.
Attendance in classroom and/or group setting, participation in problem solving, verbalizing information as it relates to job task, part process, part quality, or general improvement and/or feedback.
Essential Skills and Requirements:
High school diploma or the equivalent, required.
Minimum four years precision machining experience, required.
Minimum two years tooling experience, required.
CNC floor programming experience, required.
Proficient skill in operation of manual and CNC machining equipment, required.
Skill in ability to write CNC programs, required.
Skill in or aptitude for routinely applying shop math and occasionally trigonometry and geometry, required.
Strong problem solving skills, required.
Skill in reading blue prints, required.
Skill in utilization of a variety of common hand tools, required.
Ability to work as part of a team, required.
Organization and follow-through skills, required.
Occasional flexible hours (early/late/weekends) and some overtime as necessary to meet tooling deadlines.
