Salary: 130,000 to 180,000
Description: Ensure that The Company meets its Federal income tax legal obligations in a timely and accurate manner while minimizing the Federal income tax liability within the limits of the law. The person filling this position will eventually gain exposure to many aspects of Federal tax compliance and planning which will have a significant impact on the financial results and cash flow of the group. The position involves: - IRS Audits: Responsible for the day-to-day contact with the IRS in the handling of the ongoing Federal Income Tax Audits. Completion of IRS audit requests and participation in resolving issues with the IRS. - Research & Experimentation (R&E) Tax Credit: Responsible for the annual data collection, credit calculation and development of the R&E database within a reasonable cost budget. - Special Projects: Become the tax department’s specialist for certain assigned topics and subjects, and handle other compliance projects as they arise. The individual filling this role will be expected to identify and implement process improvements with the goals of achieving “best practices”, and minimizing tax costs. Responsibilities include: - Complete or coordinate the completion of responses to IRS information requests. Representing The Company’s best interests while working closely with the IRS. The ability to recognize and handle tax issues, develop technical positions and make recommendations is important. Identifying efficient ways of keeping audit records and informing upper management of new IRS audit initiatives is required. - Completion of the annual R&E Tax Credit. This includes developing a high degree of expertise in the R&E Tax Credit, hands on use and understanding of the mechanized data collection process, supervision of the entire process including outside consultants and The Company personnel assisting with the R&E project, calculation of the credit, support of the credit upon tax audit, developing a good working relationship with field personnel and understanding the implications from potential acquisitions, divestitures or company reorganizations. - Responsible for special projects as assigned. Qualifications: - Masters degree (in Accounting or Tax) or CPA, required - Minimum 7 years tax experience, required; experience with a large CPA firm or major corporate environment preferred - Experience and understanding of Federal income tax laws and regulations, as well as understanding of accounting theory and practice, required - Experience handling tax audits and involvement in developing the R&E tax credit is a plus - Excellent mechanization and communication skills
