Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Computer Systems Engineer Identity Management.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will have a knowledge base that spans identity, security and privacy technologies as well as the ability to bridge the software development and computing infrastructure domains.Provide subject matter expertise in implementing identity and access control solutions in support of a variety of sponsors in the Government and Intelligence Communities. Typical tasks may include: Assist in the development of identity architectures to enable the implementation of reduced single sign-on solutions, Fine Grained Authorization, Public Key Infrastructure, Directory Solutions, etc. using standards based technologies. Articulate the trade-offs and the challenges involved in implementing various access control solutions such as Role Based Access Control (RBAC) and Attribute Based Access Control (ABAC) in the context of Identity Management. Assist in the development of solutions that enable the exchange of identity information across organizational and information domains (federated identity solutions) Maintain current knowledge of identity technologies in the commercial marketplace with an eye towards how it could be applied to sponsor needs.
Expectation is that the candidate actively participates in the technical community:
Formal technical community participation via conferences (attending and presenting), training classes, etc. Informal technical community participation such as keeping up on technical journals, reading the blogs and the writings of acknowledged industry experts and practioners, participating in relevant mailing lists and online forums. Build relationships with peers in the industry, government and research arenas to leverage community expertise and knowledge in implementing identity solutions. Prototype technology solutions appropriate to potential sponsor requirements using the relevant mix of technologies. Develop the ability to cut through vendor marketing to identify what is real such that the appropriate vendor technology can be mapped to a sponsors solution architecture.Actively work to share knowledge and experience gained via external participation and project work via participation in internal Community of Practices, online forums such as listservs and wikis, speaking engagements and one on one discussions with supervision, program management and peers in support of making JHU/APL a Center of Excellence in Identity Management for our sponsor base.Participate in standards organizations such as OASIS, W3C and others on behalf of JHU/APL in the creation and modification of standards such that they take into account sponsor requirements and use cases.
Qualifications
Required:
BS in Computer Science or related discipline. At least 5 years of increasingly complex software development with one or more of the major software platforms (i.e. .NET and/or JEE) and/or infrastructure experience with one or more major operating systems (i.e., *nix, Windows) in an Enterprise class environment. Awareness of the fundamental principles of Service Oriented Architecture. Demonstrated experience with implementing web services using one or more of the major web services stacks on the JEE and/or .NET Platforms. Demonstrated experience in one or more of the relevant areas of Identity, Security, and Privacy with an interest in focusing on the Identity Management area. Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Eligibility requirements include US citizenship. Must be eligible for DoD clearance requiring background investigation and/or polygraph examination.

Demonstrated experience with the implementation of identity solutions which may include: Application of relevant standards such as SAML, XACML, WS-SX, etc. Implementation and/or administration of directory services (LDAP etc) and/or Virtual Directory Capabilities, Implementation and/or administration of PKI, Implementation and/or administration of Web Access Management solutions. RBAC/ABAC. Full lifecycle implementation experience as related to an Identity Management Project.
Special Work Conditions
May be required to work off site in sponsor facilities. Local and limited non-local travel for meetings and field support at sponsor locations and military facilities.
