Senior SOA Software Engineer

Job Location: Laurel, Maryland

Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Senior SOA Software Engineer.

Responsibilities

Provide innovative solutions for realization of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) based systems that include service generation, service security, service discovery, service access and schema generation. Participate in the design and development of software to implement these solutions. Lead and participate on project teams focused on the analysis, design and architecting of software solutions aimed at improving the scalability, usability, security, and effectiveness of DoD and IC information systems derived from customers needs, domain experts and other pertinent stakeholders. Develop, implement and validate software solutions to validate and explore service-oriented architecture technologies and techniques using best of breed software practices. Participate in SOA related program working groups/ Integrated Process Teams to facilitate a deeper understanding of customers SOA programs. Participation involves document review, teleconferencing, and establishment of close working relationships with program personnel to gain knowledge of expectations and facilitate delivery of program services. Actively participate in strategic planning, IR&D projects, and other initiatives that shape the scope and direction of group.

Qualifications

Required:
BS or MS in Engineering, Computer science, or other related discipline. At least 10 years of software design and development experience. Mastery of software development using structured and object oriented languages hosted on Windows, Linux and Unix platforms. Demonstrated experience implementing large scale distributed software systems. Demonstrated strength in both verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently or as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Desired:
Knowledge of Open source projects. Demonstrated understanding of SOA tenants and precepts. Familiarity with SOA governance best practices. Familiarity of networks and communication technologies for distributed systems. Strong desire to improve intelligence collection and analysis, information sharing, and the nation¿s capacity for coordinated and integrated action. Familiarity with Commercial and Government SOA programs and tools. Ability to work equally well in software architect, designer or implementer roles.

Special Work Conditions

May be required to work offsite in sponsor facilities. Local and limited non-local travel for meetings and field support at sponsor locations and military facilities.

Security

Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship. Must be eligible for DoD clearance requiring background investigation and/or polygraph examination. Preference for current SSBI.
