Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a {insert job title}.

Responsibilities

Support current activities in developing electronic and digital systems processing systems to integrate with high speed (2.5 to 100 Gb/s) optical communications systems.

Duties:
Develop electronics designs for high speed (>2.5 Gb/s) error correction systems for optical communications. Develop and implement firmware or VHDL/Verilog code to support high speed (>1 Gb/s) digital signal processing. Assist in the integration and test of developed electronics/code with electro-optic systems. Document work in support of sponsor contracts.

Qualifications
Required:

B.S. or M.S. in electrical engineering or computer engineering or equivalent, with emphasis in high speed digital design. 5 years experience in experimental digital system design with an emphasis on applications to optical communications systems. Must be able to work effectively as part of a team. Strong verbal, presentation and written skills.

Desired:
Ph.D. in electrical engineering or computer engineering with emphasis in high speed (>2.5 Gb/s) digital design. Demonstrated experimental skills for developing and implementing digital systems, as well as integration with electrooptic systems.

Special Work Conditions
Travel to sponsor and field test sites, approximately 5% of time.
