Information System Security Engineer

Job Location: Laurel, Maryland

Job Type: Full-Time / Regular

Department: Applied Information Sciences Department

Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Information System Security Engineer.

Responsibilities

As part of a multi-disciplinary team developing new capabilities for the Department of Defense, provide Information Security expertise to ensure adequate system performance in the face of threat. Evaluate system mission and projected threats to determine required security features. Work with system designers to make appropriate system architecture modifications and additions. Evaluate and/or develop system security policies, high-level and detailed system security requirements, system security architectures, vulnerability assessments, threat assessments, risk assessments, ISS plans, and security Concept of Operations (CONOPS). As a trusted government agent, additional tasks will include evaluating vendor proposals, recommending product selections, and working closely with sponsors to identify and verify equipment certification requirements. Evaluate and/or develop security test and evaluation (ST&E) plans and reports.

Qualifications

Required:
BS or MS or equivalent degree in engineering or computer science and 6+ years of professional experience in IA, networking, or communications systems. Demonstrated good organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-organizational team. Demonstrated outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

Desired:

Experience with IA issues related to current Department of Defense communication PORs.

Special Work Conditions
Needs the ability to travel locally and globally to meetings and site evaluations.

Security

Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship. Must be eligible for DoD clearance requiring background investigation and/or polygraph examination. Preference for current SSBI.
