Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Aerospace Propulsion Engineer.

Responsibilities

Provide expert technical advice to rocket motor development and production qualification activities supported by literature, modeling activities or test data. Performance of this work will require a broad understanding of rocket motor design, development, necessary analyses and production issues. Research of technology feasibility, acquisition and use of a variety of analysis tools, design and execution of small experimental test efforts, and risk evaluations. Coordinate with system engineers, warfare analysis, and space scientists to determine research and development requirements and transition products in operation. Participate in project/program/experiment planning. Document experiment results, prepare reports, and establish material requirements for sponsors.

Qualifications
Required:

Required: MS in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics; 3+ years experience working with a broad variety of development and production issues in solid rocket motor design and analysis, fabrication, and testing. Understanding of solid propellant rocket motor operation. Ability to use modeling tools to characterize issues in propulsion technology. Ability to write technical reports. Ability to plan and conduct small-scale experimental programs. Ability to present ideas in a clear and concise manner.

Desired:
Desired: PhD in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics. 8+ years experience working with a broad variety of development and production issues in solid rocket motor design and analysis, fabrication, and testing. Familiarity with related propulsion technologies of liquid, hybrid, air-breathing, electric, or gun propulsion a plus. Competence with detailed analysis codes: FEA structural or thermal, CFD, internal ballistic modeling tools, etc. Familiarity with aerodynamic, control, structural, system, or other weapon or spacecraft development issues in addition to propulsion issues. Identification of appropriate technology opportunities for JHU/APL to advance the state of the art would be a plus.
