Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an Analyst/Software Developer.
Description:
Conduct systems engineering (i.e., concept definition, concept feasibility studies, trade studies, requirements development, and performance analysis). Develop models and simulations for combat and weapons systems designed to defeat cruise missiles, ballistic missile, and unconventional threats.
Duties:
- Develop, modify, and improve models and simulations representing combat and communication system elements and functions. Specify necessary input data and develop effective representations of results (plots, visualization, ¿).
- Conduct analyses of theater level combat system performance, assess current and future defense capabilities, use models and simulations to predict and compare performance.
- Develop and evaluate weapon and communication systems concepts and algorithms, specify requirements for weapon and communication systems, develop technical assessments to support acquisition planning and live test events.
- Lead or participate in systems engineering working groups chartered to conduct analyses, define requirements, and recommend concepts and solutions. Deliver formal presentations to sponsors and engineering community, effectively communicate proposed concepts/solutions and analysis results. Produce documentation to capture concept definitions, requirements, analysis results, and technical recommendations.
Qualifications
Required:
BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent. Experience and/or strong interest in systems engineering and analysis, modeling and simulation, and software development. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Success in working in a team software development environment.
Desired:
MS degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent. 3 or more years experience with Naval Weapons Systems and/or Naval Communications Systems. 3 or more years proficiency in modeling and simulation software development (including C++, Perl, MatLab, XML). Experience with agile software development (including Scrum), Object Oriented Design, and configuration management. 3 or more years experience in ballistic or cruise missile defense.
Special Work Conditions
Occasional travel to sponsor, contractor facilities for meetings and reviews. Possible occasional support of test events involving extended hours, travel aboard ships and travel to field site activities.
Security
