Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Digital Hardware Engineer.
Responsibilities
Develop digital hardware to implement novel RF communications and signal exploitation algorithms and applications for the DOD and Intelligence Community. Design and prototype FPGA-based digital devices and DSP chip-based processors suitable for hosting signal processing algorithms. Work closely with algorithm developers to implement and evaluate communications signal exploitation and geo-location signal processing in custom digital hardware, through use of existing IP cores and VHDL code. Devise approaches for and participate in testing of developed devices and systems in field and lab environments. Document designs in formal reports and informal memoranda. Present results to sponsor and technical community.
Qualifications
Required: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, physics, math, computer engineering, or equivalent. Strong oral and written communication skills. Good organizational skills. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently, and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team. U.S. Citizenship required.
Desired: Familiarity with basic RF communications, software testing, and digital signal processing concepts. Co-op work experience, familiarity with VHDL or VeriLog and FPGA development tools. Willingness to work on quick-reaction projects in support of the sponsor's operational requirements.
Special Work Conditions
Limited travel required. Must be eligible for DOD clearance requiring background investigation and/or CI polygraph. Preference for current SSBI.
Security
