Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Senior Software System Engineer for SSA, DCS, ORS Systems.
Responsibilities
The SIE Group requires a senior level software systems engineer to support National Security Space Initiatives in the area of Space Situational Awareness, Defensive Counter Space, and Operationally Responsive Space. Applications could be flight software, simulation software, decision support tools, or Independent Verification and Validation. Perform software engineering activities. Significant technical contributions in requirements analysis and specification, software system architecture, software implementation and testing. Develop and maintain staff and schedule plans. Document system architecture, specifications, processes and procedures. Train and interface with end users.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Top Secret clearance. 5-10 years experience in engineering real-time embedded or information system software applications. 3 years experience leading part of the software life cycle development process. Strong written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills with excellent initiative and follow through. Proven ability to lead small to medium teams. Experience developing and managing software with established software processes, including CMMI and AS-9100 standards.
Desired:
Master's in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Management. Experience leading spacecraft and/or National Security Space software or systems engineering efforts. Experience with Air Force or Joint space programs. Strong systems level background. Established skills in coaching, mentoring, and evaluating staff.
Special Work Conditions
Some travel may be required.
