Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Combat Systems Engineer / Analyst.
Responsibilities
Apply systems engineering, and analysis skills to support Combat Systems development and assessment programs in the National Security Technology Department; specifically working Advanced Processor Builds (APB), Engineering Measurements Program, and other related programs. Assess algorithmic/functional/technology level and/or system level performance of developmental and fleet Combat Systems. Examine detection, tracking, tactical control and/or tactical decision aid technologies and effective fleet system utilization. Investigate causal factors driving performance and recommend improvements. Interface with system developers, and analysis team members to determine analysis methodology, appropriate measures of performance and data required to execute analysis. Develop analysis and metrics software (prototype), building upon existing analysis tools. Participate in planning, and testing at developer or fleet facilities in support of assessment of submarine combat systems. Prepare detailed briefings / reports on analysis methodology and results. Brief results to team members, sponsors and external organizations.
Qualifications
Required:
New grad or 0 to 3 years of experience in field applicable to this position. BS in EE, mathematics, physics or equivalent. MATLAB and analytical skills for prototyping algorithms and assessing algorithm performance. Some background or basic understanding of Data Analysis and Statistics. Excellent written, verbal and briefing skills. Some travel required.
Desired:
Academic emphasis on signal processing, communications, state estimation or software development. Experience with MATLAB GUIs, C/C++, JAVA. . Demonstrated leadership capability. Strong background in Data Analysis and Statistics preferred. Willingness to participate in off-site Field Testing.
Special Work Conditions
Travel to include meetings (typically less than 3 days per month). System field testing typically requires several weeks (non-continuous) of travel to system integrator site.
Security
