Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Software Development Engineer for Satellite Communications Control Systems.
Responsibilities
Provide software engineering associated with the development and maintenance of an information management system that integrates several satellite communications planning, control, and monitoring ground systems. Create a software design from requirements, develop and test code, and produce documentation. Develop Java and/or C++ application software and possibly PL/SQL stored procedures. Present design and code for peer review. Participate in quality assurance, requirements, design, and other reviews. Review system documentation and understand inter-system interface documents for proper implementation. Lead or participate in working groups, and make customer presentations and support customer meetings.
Qualifications
Required: B.S. in a Computer Science or related curriculum. Up to 3 years of relevant software development experience using C++ and/or Java and N-tier software architectures. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively one-on-one and in small teams and working groups. Ability to produce professional, clear, and concise verbal and written communications. Knowledge of basic software engineering principles, best practices, and project management practices. Applicants must be US Citizens, will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Desired: M.S. in Computer Science or related curriculum. Experience with relational databases, PL/SQL, and stored procedures. Familiarity with configuration management systems. Ability to develop effective user interfaces. Some familiarity with satellite communications, or satellite communications network management domain.
