Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Senior Component Engineer.
Responsibilities
Work as a senior Component Engineer in the Space Department of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in support of NASA and Military space programs. Support Parts Control Board activities with internal design engineers, external subcontractors/vendors and sponsors, including, but not limited to: EEE parts selection, screening & qualification test plans, derating and approval. Generate test travelers & review test data (vendor & in-house). Coordinate with external test houses, as required. Generate, review and disposition part discrepancy forms, including supporting Material Review Board (MRB) activities associated with part failures from Destructive Physical Analysis (DPA), screening, or other qualification tests. Generate Source Control Drawings (SCDs) associated with parts procurement, as well as generate & review part requisitions (e.g., provide information regarding quantities required for parts testing, sole source justifications and general purchase order requirements). Provide support in the development of internal processes & procedures, as well as support corrective action generation and close-out.
Qualifications
Required: BS degree in math/science (or related field), with minimum 8-10 years equivalent work experience in EEE parts engineering. Comprehensive knowledge of EEE parts engineering activities for NASA space flight programs. Knowledge and application of NASA documents & policies: EEE-INST-002, PPL-21, parts selection, derating, and test. Candidate must have a high degree of initiative and problem solving skills, with the ability to make oral & written arguments in support of Parts Control Board activities. Ability to work both independently and as a member of an integrated project team with limited supervision. Proficiency with all Microsoft equivalent office products such as: Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
Desired: Supervisory or other line management experience, knowledge of Materials Engineering and/or Radiation Effects (TID, SEE, ELDRs), MIL-HDBK-1546 & -1547, earned value management, Microsoft Project, Visio (or other flowcharting software), real-time database systems, and understanding of AS9100 requirements. Existing security clearance and/or ability to obtain a plus.
Special Work Conditions
Travel and overtime, as required.
