Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Cyber Security Engineer.
Responsibilities
Provide technical guidance in the specification, design, development, deployment and maintenance of cyber security capabilities to enable mission success. Work with stakeholders to determine requirements for new cyber security capabilities or upgrades to existing capabilities. Then work with capability developers to provide technical oversight during the design and development stages. Maintain the test network (e.g., perform backups, apply updates). Install new components or reconfigure existing ones as new technologies become available or new testing requirements dictate the need for new segments or capabilities. Design and conduct tests. Work with capability developers to correctly deploy the capability to be tested within the test network, reconfiguring the test network as necessary. Analyze and document test results. Work with stakeholders to assess deployment readiness. Assist in the deployment and operation of cyber security capabilities. Provide technical guidance in the installation and use of the capabilities.
Qualifications
Required:
BS Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field. 3+ years of experience. Demonstrated experience with network protocols and systems. Demonstrated experience installing, configuring and maintaining networked systems. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, the ability to work on a team, outstanding written and oral communications skills, good organizational skills.
Desired:
MS Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field. 5+ years of experience. Experience installing, configuring and maintaining heterogeneous networked systems. Experience developing, testing or analyzing cyber security capabilities.
Special Work Conditions
Local travel required.
Security
Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship. Must be eligible for DoD clearance requiring background investigation and/or polygraph examination. Preference for current SSBI.
