Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an Electronic Manufacturing Engineer.
Responsibilities
Provide on-floor technical and process leadership within the electronics assembly area including implementation of processes that maximize efficiency, enhance service and improve hardware quality. Identify and lead implementation of new and enhanced electronic assembly capabilities. Serve as a manufacturing expert as part of a team designing electronic assemblies. Develop, implement and improve build processes for mixed technology PWA's, electronic assemblies, cables and harnesses for flight qualified applications. Serve as the manufacturing expert as part of a team designing electronic assemblies. Perform analyses as required to ensure that the hardware will meet the sponsor's requirements. Recommend new materials and processes as required. Generate, review/revise standard operating procedures and work instructions. Analyze process trends and metrics and design experiments to improve reliability, quality and improve cycle times.
Qualifications
Required:
BS degree or equivalent in a technical field (EE, ME, Materials Science, etc.) and 10 years of increasingly responsible work in an electronics manufacturing environment, particularly in a high mix, low volume facility. Prior technical leadership experience. Proven process development and improvement skills with broad knowledge of solder joint characteristics, PWA processing tools and materials. Knowledge of SPC and DOE. Ability to lead multiple electronics technicians. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated customer service skills. Excellent teaming skills.
Desired:
Advanced degree in a related technical field. Formal supervisory experience. Experience in operating in an ISO-9001and/or AS-9100 environment. Experience processing high reliability electronics e.g., spacecraft.
Special Work Conditions
Most work will be performed in a clean room environment.
