Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a RF Photonics Engineer.

Responsibilities
Radio Frequency and/or Photonics engineer/scientist to lead development of prototype photonic systems/subsystems, including contributions to requirements definition, concept design, hardware construction and testing.

Duties:
Take a lead role in the development of existing photonic systems, to include analog and digital hardware system design, construction and testing as well digital signal processing and data analysis algorithm development. Systems of interest include RF and microwave photonic applications to radar, electronic warfare, and RF and fiber optic communications systems. Initiate new projects and applications, including sponsor engagement, requirements definition, and concept development. Develop proposals and technical presentations to market new concepts. Support liaison activity with potential sponsors and technical community outside of APL. Document your work via internal memoranda, conference proceedings, and journal articles.

Qualifications
Required:
M.S. in physics or electrical engineering with >5 years experience in photonics, fiber optics, and RF systems. Broad understanding of electrodynamic concepts and commitment to the development of photonic and RF technology for application to defense systems. Successful applicant will exhibit a strong desire to contribute to and lead research and development programs focusing on the application of photonics technology to future RF sensor and communications systems. Must be able to work effectively as part of a team. Strong verbal, presentation, and written skills.

Desired: Ph.D in physics or electrical engineering with >10 years experience in aforementioned areas. Demonstrated ability in developing new programs. Experience with a range of optical and RF test and measurement equipment, laboratory prototyping tools and RF and photonic system design tools is highly desired as well as experience with basic laboratory and numerical simulation programming languages and software packages (MATLAB, LABVIEW, C).

Special Work Conditions
Occasional travel is required for meetings or field tests, some local, some out-of-state.

Security
