Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a CSDF Network and Systems Administrator.

Description:
To perform all systems, network, security, and purchasing administration of all UNIX, Linux, MacOS X, and Windows computers and related hardware in the Combat Systems Development Facility (CSDF).

Duties:
- Install, upgrade, and support for all unix/linux/mac/windows systems software. This includes support for the complete operating system including unix shell tools, gnome/kde tools, network services, startup and shutdown scripts, printing, and backups. This includes desktop as well as water-chilled rack-mounted processors.
- Must be able to ensure that computers meet NISPOM Chapter 8 security requirements. This includes security, encryption, authentication, PAM, firewalls, logging, auditing, intrusion detection. Kernel recompiles may be required.
- Migration planning: Perform all planning and execution of hardware and software upgrades for CSDF. Ensure smooth migration from existing configuration to a new configuration with minimal downtime and effect on users.
- Install, upgrade, and support for all application-level software. This includes 3rd party software packages installed from source, rpm, CD, DVD, upgrade mirror server.
- Install, upgrade, maintain all networking hardware, including switches, cables, patch panels, NICs. Migrate to signal net and data. VLAN admin.
- Perform purchasing of new hardware. This includes researching possible hardware, walking a purchase request through the purchasing process, dealing with OEMs, handling hardware returns. Short term and long term fiscal planning is required.

Qualifications

Required:
BS in IT, related field or 5 years relevant experience. Must be willing and able to perform work outside of normal work hours. Previous network and systems administration of a unix/linux facility. Must be familiar with vi and unix shell scripting and/or PERL scripting. Must be able to install kernel or software from source if needed. Must be able to maintain DNS Services, MySQL Database Services, and unix/linux Grids and Clusters, and LDAP Services. Experience in selection and upgrade of computer hardware including storage systems and rack-mounted servers.

Desired:
Experience with the following: Suse, Redhat, Windows, and MacOSX administration, Active Directory, Windows Grids, Grid Scheduling Tools including Sun Grid Engine, heterogeneous platform integration, NISPOM Chapter 8 security guidelines, DHCP, HTTP, PVM, MPI, NFS, AFP, VLAN, TCP/IP, linux clustering experience, power and cooling troubleshooting and planning, security auditing.

Special Work Conditions
Facility downtime must be scheduled outside of normal working hours; must be willing and able to work early mornings or evenings or weekends.

Security
