Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Computer System Administrator.
Responsibilities
Participate in the design and development of real-time processing systems for various DOD programs, particularly in the area of Hardware, Systems Architecture, and Hardware/Software integration.
Duties:
System and Network administration for Solaris, Linux, and Windows workstations and servers including the set up of new systems and maintaining existing systems. Security administration for workstations and servers to include the identification of procedures needed to obtain and maintain DoD information assurance accreditation. Procure and maintain equipment for a wide variety of projects. Support group projects and equipment at government facilities and contractor sites.
Qualifications
Required:
Training / experience in Solaris, Linux, and Windows system administration.
Ability to independently configure and troubleshoot workstations, i.e., install the operating system, install necessary patches and set up all required file systems. Experience with hardware devices. Ability to specify system hardware requirements and interact with vendors to procure / test / etc. Ability to travel to government facilities and contractor sites. Must be willing and able to perform work outside of normal work hours. Independent thinker and problem solver. Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills.
Desired:
Experience in Redhat/CentOS, and Suse Linux. NISPOM Chapt 8 auditing requirements, DISA STIG configuration requirements, security auditing, BakBone or equivalent backup software management tools, LDAP configuration, Vendor software license management. Red Hat Certified Engineer.
Special Work Conditions
Ability to work in heavily air conditioned (cold) computer labs for many hours at a time. Willingness to travel for short periods (a few days to a week) multiple times a year. Computer workstation operation requires manual dexterity sufficient to efficiently manipulate a computer keyboard and the ability to use a computer for multiple (consecutive) hours per day. Ability to work outside of normal working hours.
Security
Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
