Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an Assistant Group Supervisor, Technical Facility Systems Administration, Logistics and Security (SOF).
Responsibilities
Assist SOF Group Supervisor in providing organizational leadership and oversight for the Space Department Technical Facility System Administration, Logistics and Security Group (SOF). In conjunction with the Group Supervisor, manage a diverse team of information technology, logistics, facility administration and security staff providing operational support for large number of Civilian Space and National Security Space Programs. Assist with leadership of Department activities related to Unix System Administration, Ground System Administration, Windows System Administration, Technical Facility Management, Capital Budgeting, Logistics, Departmental Communications, and Security and assist with supervision of programmatic activities related to infrastructure management. Participate at Laboratory level on ad-hoc teams related to facility management, security and infrastructure tasks and activities.
Interact with customers and peer communities; stay abreast of external facility, security and infrastructure environment and activities. Attract new staff and resources in alignment with Department strategic goals. Perform supervisory duties including coaching, performance evaluation, training, task planning & assignment, process definition and requirements tracking. Perform other tasks as required by Department Management.
Qualifications
Required: BS or BA and 10+ years of technical experience in systems, network administration and/or technology management in a Unix environment. Strong project management skills and a successful record in managing complex technology projects to schedule and budget. Experience working with sponsors and staff to identify technology needs and successfully implement on projects. Experience overseeing technology procurements. Knowledge of DoD Information Systems policy and administration. Experience and demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and interact with all levels of staff. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
Desired: Experience working with Spacecraft ground system software packages. 5-10 years of hardware experience with Dell and Sun server, desktop and workstation systems. Familiarity or experience in IT security including DIACAP and FISMA/NIST.
Special Work Conditions
Position requires routine driving of APL vehicles. Requires that person work occasional night and/or weekend hours as necessary to provide support for operational programs. Requires that person carry APL cell phone for off hours support and monitoring of operational systems. May require occasional travel to support spacecraft integration and launch activities.
