Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Science Applications Developer.
Responsibilities
Provide analysis and software development support for Space Department science applications, research activities and missions. Develop software and algorithms for visualization, telemetry reduction, instrument calibration, orbital and line of sight geometry, model/data comparisons and other functions necessary for the analysis of space based sensing data. Construction of data systems and algorithms for analysis of space based measurement data. Development and management of science operations for space missions.
Qualifications
Required: MS or equivalent experience in space sciences. 4 years previous experience working with space based sensing data. 4 years experience with scientific software development and programming languages: (Fortran, C or IDL). Demonstrated ability to work independently. Selected applicants will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. Must be eligible for DoD clearance requiring background investigation and/or polygraph examination.
Desired: Facility with as much of the following: orbital mechanics, radiative transfer, instrumentation, inverse theory, atmospheric modeling, plasma physics, planetary geology. Experience with IDL, Matlab or Mathematica; Experience with Object Oriented programming. 2-4 years experience with multiple programming languages (e.g., Fortran, C, Java, Perl). 2-4 years experience with different operating systems (Linux, Win32, SunOS).
