Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Physics-Based Modeling and SImulation Engineer (Part-time or Full-time).
Responsibilities
Physics-Based Modeling and Simulation Engineer -Responsible for system modeling, software development and analysis on high-impact, physics-based modeling and simulation projects for critical DoD systems being worked by the Interactive Simulations Program.
Duties include:
1) System modeling and software development to include Windows-based and/or Web-deployed simulation applications, high-fidelity system, subsystem and sensor models, environment modeling, and computational algorithmic development.
2) Software/systems analysis and design including execution of concept-to-delivery systems design processes (requirements analysis, architectural and detailed design, implementation, testing and documentation).
Qualifications
Required:
B.S. or equivalent in Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field.
2-5 years of relevant work experience.
Basic understanding of mechanical/electrical engineering and system interfaces.
Strong computer and software development skills, with experience in object-oriented design. Experience in C++ and physics-based modeling.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
The ability to multitask and to support multiple development projects is also important.
The ideal candidate should have strong initiative, creativity, breadth of knowledge, and a desire to learn.
Desired:
M.S. in Engineering, Computer Science or related technical degree.
Experience with Windows-based development, agile software development, meta-modeling, computational algorithmic development, fluid mechanics, GPGPU, network communications, multi-threaded applications, and Java.
Familiarity with software engineering tools such as Borland C++, Visual C++, Visual Basic, Windows, and MS Office.
Special Work Conditions
Some US travel may be required; not likely to exceed a few trips per year with no more than seven days in duration for each. This position can be part-time at 20hrs p/wk or a full-time position.
Security
