Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Section Supervisor, Enterprise Client Management Team.

Responsibilities
Provide leadership for the Enterprise Client Management team. Supervise and provide technical guidance to a team of 7-12 IT professionals responsible for deploying and managing enterprise technologies to client computers.

Provide technical leadership, project management, and strategy inputs to the operational and engineering teams within the Desktop Services Group (IDS). Serve as a technical resource for high-level engineering staff to assist with completing projects, solving problems, and completing deliverables. Types of projects include software testing and deployment, desktop image development and management, and management of client/server applications.
Manage day-to-day operations of the team including follow-up on open work, monitoring task queues, and reporting results to stakeholders. Implement processes to manage workflow, workload and prioritization.
Perform supervisory tasks and line management duties as required. These tasks include, but are not limited to, hiring, coaching, training, developing and participating in performance reviews, and advising staff about career opportunities and functional/technical development.
Manage enterprise-wise problems after reviewing data and gathering input from stakeholders. This should include defining metrics, setting objectives, and defining processes to achieve those objectives.
Provide escalation support/Tier-3 support for challenging issues related to Windows computer systems. Manage team performing research, analysis, and diagnoses on problems. Solve problems using documented processes where available and best practices where not.

Qualifications
Required: B.S. in Information Technology (IT) - or equivalent years of professional IT work experience. At least 10 years of hands-on IT experience including at least 4 years of supervisory experience. At least 3 years of Tier 3 support to include extensive hardware, software, or networking experience. Strong systems-level skills in desktop technology. Experience supporting, configuring, and managing Windows computers.Managerial/supervisory experience to include hiring and rating employees. Experience should include overseeing and motivating a technical team of at least 6 staff members. Ability to serve as a positive role model for staff and interface well with all levels of staff. Previous success with conflict resolution. Experience managing enterprise-level projects utilizing project management fundamentals. Experience implementing best practices. Ability to independently identify and resolve complex problems using current job knowledge, research, and external resources. Solid understanding of standard metrics and reports to forecast resource needs and evaluate team performance. Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills which will be used to document analysis and to give technical presentations to customer teams and upper management. Highly motivated and positive attitude demonstrated in an extremely fast-paced environment.

Desired: MS degree. At least 2 years experience managing a large scale enterprise of client computers using centralized tools such as Altiris. Working technical and social knowledge of security issues with a good understanding of how to respond, address, and plan for security incidents. ITIL certification.

Special Work Conditions
Occasionally includes travel within the US for training and vendor meetings.
